Health Policy Issues are a Hot Button Topic

Let's face it – everyone needs to go to the doctor or hospital at some point in their lives. Problem is, this can be very expensive if you don't have the right kind of health coverage. Right now in the United States, health policy issues are receiving a great deal of attention under the Obama administration and many people are debating whether or not the US should implement universal or nationalized healthcare for all citizens. Like every political issue, there are those who are for universal healthcare and those who are against it.

The supporters of universal healthcare want to see every citizen get the healthcare they need, even if they don't have health insurance or enough money to pay their medical bills. Health insurance can be expensive, especially for adults who already have health problems. Not all employers provide insurance as a benefit, not to mention how fast the ranks of the self-employed are growing. For some, universal healthcare sounds like the perfect solution to a serious problem. But this is not true for everyone.

The individuals who are opposed to universal healthcare worry that it will take away quality care from our senior citizens and take away freedom of choice. Some people have good insurance policies that they want to keep. Hopefully middle ground can be reached so that there is a level of freedom when it comes to choosing insurance, doctors and hospitals even if universal healthcare policies are implemented in the future. To join in the fray, all you need to do is watch CNN or visit any political message board. You will find the debates get quite heated when it comes to this subject.

Hopefully the United States government will listen to its citizens, weigh the pros and cons and come up with a solution to health policy issues that is satisfying for most. No matter what, there will always be people who find something to complain about. What's important is that the citizens of the United States obtain the healthcare they require, whether it is through the government or a private healthcare plan. The only thing left to do is watch and wait, although if you want to get involved a well written letter to your Senator is a good idea.
